Nafplio is a charm. This little town is a ridiculously sweet place to stay for a few nights, whether on a tour of the region or looking for somewhere to linger a little longer. Its pretty streets, boutiques and the bright blue sea make it a popular destination for Greeks and foreigners alike.
The Nafsimedon hotel is just outside the winding streets of the old town which makes your life a lot easier if, as we did, you arrive by car. First impressions are impressive: a pink 19th-Century mansion set back from the road with a quiet terrace and shaded chairs for breakfast or an evening drink.
As you would expect from a place like this, rooms are high-ceilinged and elegant: think iron-wrought four poster beds, chaise longues and heavy antique furniture. The overall effect is charming, and the hotel has a truly original feel, reflecting the wealthy history of this seaside town.
The Nafsimedon Hotel is less than 5 minutes’ walk from the heart of the old town and all of its attractions. Street parking is reasonably easy on the nearby streets. The staff were very welcoming, and happy to share their stories over breakfast: continental-style with a few typically Greek touches.
