An old pescaderia (fishmonger’s) in Sant Antoni that was converted to a bar way back in the 60s. Esterri is a rare thing in Barcelona: a quiet, unhurried bar where you can spend the afternoon reading or drinking eternal cañas with a friend and IT’S OK. This neighbourhood is a particularly fertile hunting ground for both cutres and slightly more upmarket bars, but Esterri stands out for its friendly staff (high five to Angel and Julián) and consistent, well-priced kitchen. We can also vouch for the hearty €9.50 Menu del Dia (typical menu: lentil stew, chuurasco, tiramisu. Emphasis on the tiramisu).

The staff
Neat, professional mix of Chinese and Spanish waiters who are more than happy to tweak the menu del dia to your liking.
Best bits
Comfortable bar in a neighbourhood that makes for a great night out on the tapas, and far away from the crowds of tourists that swamp other parts of Barcelona.
