Ah, the chiringuito. That particularly Spanish type of beach bar that will happily serve you a plato combinado in less time than it takes to boil an egg (how do they do that?), and all while you sit back and enjoy the view.
We ended up at Barisitu by chance after a morning on the stunning Algaiarens beach (one of Menorca’s best, and easily up there with Thailand and the Carribean’s hotspots). After a drive down past Cala Morell’s necropolis we decided, for want of a better word, to dump the car on the edge of a cliff and go get fried food, for this is The Spanish Way.
As it happened, we struck lucky. Baristiu sits on the shore at the edge of Cala Morell, a modern but fairly tasteful village of white houses overlooking the prehistoric rock formations that close the bay off from the open sea. Manolo (who claims not to be Freddy Mercury, despite all evidence to the contrary) and his team run a tight ship and can turn over a steak sandwich in three minutes flat.

Great views – Baristiu occupies an enviable position overlooking the turquoise bay of Cala Morell where you can easily while away a few hours in the charming company of Manolo and his crew.
Not so sure
If you are after Michelin stars, this ain’t your place. Bocadillos, yes. Amuse-bouches: no.
