No-nonsense, homely neighbourhood bar in the Exiample. If you like to see four-year-olds playing on tragaperras slot machines and old men chewing on cheap cigars, El Teruel is the place to be. There is plenty of room both inside and on the heated terrace (although the view of busy Gran Vía isn’t to everyone’s taste).
We went for tapas and got exactly what we wanted: well-made, classic tapas dishes at reasonable prices. If you ask for jamón, the staff whip out a Crocodile Dundee-style knife and carve it for you straight from one of the legs hanging in the corner of the bar. The patatas bravas were especially good.
1 tapa of ham (jamón) €4.85
Patatas bravas (Fried potatoes in a spicy sauce) €2.65
A big pile of tomato bread (pan con tomate) €0.60
1 beer (caña) €1.45
1 Coca-cola €1.70
