Behind an unassuming half-height door on one of the Eixample’s most exclusive streets, Les Gens Que J’aime is a bar like no other: an authentic glimpse into another era. This is one of the few remaining bars of the gauche divine, a cultural movement of writers and artists in the 1960s and 70s that brightened up the grey Barcelona of the Franco era.
The interior is eclectic to say the least – think dim lights, velvet couches and mannequins with a tracksuited resident fortune teller in the corner. Yes, the clairvoyant is part of the furniture – making Les Gens Que J’aime one of the few bars in the world where you can have your palm read while sipping an artisan gin and tonic.
