Bodega Casa Antigua de Guardia, almost unmissable thanks to the crowds spilling out onto Calle Alameda Principal, is a simple, stone-floored bar that has been popular with locals since opening in 1840 for one simple reason: the wine. The wall is lined with family-sized barrels of the good stuff – including Moscatel, Ximenez and home-made vermouth – with prices chalked onto the front.
White-coated barmen casually pour drinks directly from the barrels, and punters squeeze in to find a place to lean with their tipple. You can also buy wine by the bottle – prices start at around 10-11 Euros for a litre. La Casa Antigua de Guardia also serves a selection of cold tapas – ask the staff for the day’s specials.
